Cytotechnologist Position Sign-On Bonus

We are currently seeking a full-time Cytotechnologist to join our dynamic team of Cytology professionals. As a Cytology Diagnostician you will be tasked with the microscopic examination of gynecologic (GYN) and non-gynecologic (Non-GYN) cellular preparations; rendering a final diagnosis on all negative GYN cases and flagging for further Pathologist’s review abnormal GYN and all Non-GYN cases. Summary: Performs microscopic evaluation of cytologic specimens correlating clinical information with morphologic findings to make a final diagnosis on negative gynecologic specimens. Renders a microscopic assessment on abnormal gynecologic and all nongynecologic specimens pending final interpretation by a Pathologist.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned
• Verifies the identification of the adequacy and quality of the specimen, being aware of technical limitations and the possibility of procedural error.
• Considers diagnostic possibilities, taking into account normal cellular patterns, the presence of microorganisms, inflammatory reactions, endocrinopathies, benign cellular changes, premalignant changes, benign and malignant neoplasias, or cellular responses to therapeutic agents.
• Makes an interpretation and reviews the clinical data of the patient comparing the data with the findings.
• Prepares a final diagnosis using established terminology, enters the data into the laboratory information system, reports and signs negative/normal gynecologic specimens.
• Required to accurately assess all gynecologic and nongynecologic specimens according to American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) criteria in a timely manner.
• Prepares provisional diagnosis, signs and dates worksheet on all other cases and refers these for review.
• Prepares cyto histo correlation sheets, retrospective screening and quality assurance forms.
• Responsible for rush cases as assigned.
• Maintains absolute integrity in the accurate performance and reporting of results and observes professional discretion with patient information.
• Documents and maintains daily individual statistics.
• Attends all appropriate laboratory training/educational programs of the laboratory.
• Attends cytology professional meetings and keep current with contemporary cytologic issues.
• Participates in teaching programs of the department.
• Must be able to maintain Cytology department quality assurance program and prepare quality control forms and amended reports on time.
• Maintains a clean work area.
• Regular, predictable attendance is required.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory duties.
Education and/or Experience: Must have a bachelors degree and have graduated from a school of cytotechnology accredited by the Committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAAHEP) or be certified in cytotechnology by a certifying agency approved by the US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) is an approved agency.
Must have a current license as a Cytotechnologist issued by the State of California Health Services. The California Department of Health Services requires twelve units of continuing education annually. Credit may include tutorials, workshops or literature searches. Voluntary participation in a similar program is currently available to associate members (cytotechnologist) of the American Society of Cytology. Participation in clinical or technical conferences by laboratory personnel should be encouraged. Attendance at local or regional or national meetings or workshops should be considered favorable. Units may also be obtained by taking department sponsored College of American Pathologists (CAP) tests.
Salary: From $52.50 per hour
